William Shockley, who directed the new Western Long Shadows, has fashioned a 30-plus-year career in Hollywood as an actor, writer, director, and producer. Paul Verhoeven cast him in the cult classic Robocop and cast him again in the cult classic Showgirls. He also starred in Madison, with Jim Caviezel and Bruce Dern, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, with James Spader, and The Joyriders, with Martin Landau and Kris Kristofferson, among others.
Shockley has worked on numerous television projects, including a six-year run as Hank Lawson on CBS’ Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and the Dr. Quinn spin-off, California. He also starred opposite Whoopi Goldberg in the sitcom Bagdad Cafe and opposite Teri Garr in the sitcom, Good & Evil.
Shockley has co-written 12 feature films and produced 13 feature films and three TV movies. He executive produced of The Assessment, starring Alicia Vikander, which had its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and was released by Magnolia Pictures in 2025.
Shockley most recently directed Long Shadows, an American Western, for Tiki Tāne Pictures, in theaters September 26, 2025. It stars Dermot Mulroney, Jacqueline Bisset and Dominic Monaghan, winning Best Director and a Special Jury Award at the 2025 Worldfest Houston International Film Festival.
William Shockley will appear with Long Shadows at 7 pm Saturday, July 26 in the Plaza Theatre.
