Film, TV icon Veronica Cartwright to appear at PCFF 2025

Hollywood icon Veronica Cartwright will appear with two of her most legendary movies — Alien and The Birds — at this year’s 18th annual El Paso Community Foundation Plaza Classic Film Festival, which runs July 17-27 in and around downtown El Paso’s Plaza Theatre.

The English-born, American-raised Cartwright will appear for on-stage interviews before Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror classic Alien at 7 pm Friday, July 25, and Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 nature-vs.-man horror thriller The Birds at 3:30 pm Saturday, July 26 in the Plaza Theatre.

Tickets for each program will be $10, on sale with the rest of the Plaza Classic Film Festival schedule on Tuesday, June 10 at the Plaza Theatre box office (no service fees) and Ticketmaster (with service fees).

Cartwright, whose sister Angela Cartwright appeared with The Sound of Music *at PCFF 2013, is a former child actor who appeared in numerous television shows, including Leave it to Beaver* (she gave Beaver Cleaver a black eye and his first kiss) and Daniel Boone. Her film career began at age 9. She was 12 when The Children’s Hour was released and 14 when she played Rod Taylor’s traumatized daughter in Hitchcock’s The Birds.

As an adult, her career took off with 1978’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers *and 1979’s *Alien, in which she played Lambert, navigator of the ill-fated space ship Nostromo. Alien launched one of Hollywood’s most successful sci-fi franchises.

Cartwright has appeared in more than 100 movies and TV shows in a career that began in the late 1950s, including movies The Right Stuff, The Witches of Eastwick and this year’s The Ruse, and TV shows such as The X-Files, for which she received three Emmy nominations, L.A. Law, ER, Grey’s Anatomy, Will & Grace (as Jack’s mom), and Man on the Inside.

This year’s Plaza Classic Film Festival features guest appearances by writer-director Luis Valdez with his La Bamba and Zoot Suit, plus screenings of Cabaret, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Godfather Part II, Notting Hill, Saving Private Ryan, Toy Story, Schindler’s List, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Patton, the Local Flavor Showcase and many more.
